Bend Park and Recreation District: Summer Program Intern

15-20 hours/week (150 hours)

 

BPRD’s mission is to strengthen community vitality and foster healthy, enriched lifestyles by providing exceptional park and recreation services. The outreach team works to cultivate inclusiveness and support BPRD’s commitment to equity.

 

A typical day…
This position will help with a variety of outreach activities, including supportingDiscover the Outdoors, a camp for BIPOC kids, ages 10-15 that providesintroductory experiences to the outdoors. Each day campers explore new placesand try new activities like rock climbing, water activities, and more. Other days, theintern will support programs like Movies in the Park and Fun on the Fly.

 

Skills learned…
The Intern will receive training in program facilitation, outdoor recreation, community outreach, communication, and program planning. The intern will have opportunities to work directly with programs, as well as help behind the scenes.

 

Schedule and other details…
The schedule for this position is a mix of weekday work, plus some occassional work in the evenings. Ideally, the intern will be available on Friday evenings in August to support Movies in the Park.

 

Job requirements…
A love for connecting with people of all ages, especially kids, is needed for this position. Conversational Spanish is also high preferred.

This position will work closely with the BPRD’s Latino Community OutreachSpecialist, Kathya Avila Choquez, and will also have opportunities to connect withother BPRD departments.
