High Desert Food & Farm Alliance: Food Access Intern

15-20 hours/week (200 hours)
At HDFFA, we believe everyone deserves good food, which we achieve through our
mission to support a healthy and thriving food and farm network in Central Oregon through education, collaboration and inclusivity.
A typical day…
Wednesdays will be spent at our market booth checking VeggieRx participants in at the Downtown Bend Farmers Market and supporting surplus produce collection from the farm booths at the end. When the intern is on a farm with us, they’ll be getting their hands dirty, harvesting produce, and connecting with volunteers. Depending on interest, there’s in our Food Access department including packing Fresh Harvest Kits.
Skills learned…
The intern will learn skills in time management, teamwork, and community engagement. You will also gain an understanding of Central Oregon’s local food system, some of the tasks that go into farming, and a behind-the-scenes look at a farmers market.
Schedule and other details…
The internship requires spending a full day (9:30am-4:00pm) at the downtown Bend Farmers Market on Wednesdays. Some evening and weekend hours may occur. Harvesting events (called Grow & Give) often occur with just a few days notice, so flexibility is preferred. Travel within Bend is required and the ability to travel occasionally to Redmond, Madras, and other surrounding towns, is preferred.
Job requirements…
The intern should be excited to engage with the public and volunteers, and have an interest in learning about Central Oregon’s food system! The ability to lift 50 lbs. and stay on your feet is required. Conversational Spanish is highly preferred.
The team…
The intern will work primarily with Amanda Singh, the Food Access Senior Manager, and two other Food Access Coordinators. You can learn more about the HDFFA team at https://hdffa.org/ourteam.
