The Environmental Center: Youth Education & Garden Intern

15-30 hours/week (270 hours)
The mission of the Environmental Center is to embed sustainability into daily life in Central Oregon. They are a regional leader in environmental education, engagement, and action.
A typical day…
The intern will support 4 weeks of summer camps for elementary students in Bend
and Redmond, including Eco Hero Adventures and Forest Explorers. During weeks
when there are no camps, the intern will prep for upcoming camp sessions, help
with the Kansas Avenue Learning Garden, and support outreach events.
Skills learned…
This individual will gain skills and experience in environmental education and
facilitating youth programs for a medium-sized nonprofit. Interns will also have the
chance to be involved in garden infrastructure and development, as well as event
outreach and planning.
Schedule and other details…
The majority of work will occur Monday-Thursday from 8am-4:30pm, but some
evening might be required for garden work parties. The Environmental Center’s
office is located in downtown Bend, though staff are working from another nearby
location until the building renovation is complete in June.
Job requirements…
This job requires creativity, computer proficiency, and an interest in sustainability
and working with youth. Interns must also be comfortable working outside in a
variety of weather conditions.

The Environmental Center has 12 staff members. This position will work most
